S 647 Minerve Submarine
50th anniversary of the loss of French Submarine Minerve (Daphné Class), on 27th January 1968.
52 crewmen, including 6 officers, were on board when the submarine was lost. The French Navy promptly launched a search for the missing submarine mobilising numerous ships, including the Aircraft Carrier Clemenceau and the submersible SP-350 Denise under the supervision of Jacques Cousteau.
To this day, no trace of the vessel has never been found.
During 1968, three more submarine were lost also to unknown causes, they were Israel INS Dakar, Soviet K-129 and United States Navy USS Scorpion.
